Cross communication environment
To achieve the required cross communication environment involves a change of attitude and a more collaborative approach. The layout has been designed to facilitate this and to encourage people to move around the office and to use the communal spaces they are drawn to.

Roof top city life

Date : Nov 2011
Location : 10 Mouat Street Fremantle Western Australia
Project type : Private residence

Brief :
The brief is to create a functional dwelling on the roof top of a narrow building sandwiched between two taller buildings located within the city of Fremantle west end heritage area. The clients are a couple who desire a simple lifestyle and a minimal footprint yet still have a residence where they can invite friends and entertain.

Concept :
This rooftop loft manifests a sophisticated inner-city life, that is both ‘artistic and utilitarian’. A raw authentic ambience is created while at the same time there is comfort in both a visual and physical sense. The serenity of the home contrasts sharply with the hustle and bustle of being on the edge of the Fremantle’s central entertainment district.

Lifestyle design considerations :
One of the key aims of this design was to make it easy for the inhabitants to “live their lifestyle” and this was considered as a specific design task. The rituals of the everyday were taken into account and the elements of the interior were purposely designed.

Concept :
The design ethos is based on the principal of simplicity, which highlights the raw beauty of the material itself. The combination of opposite elements, rustic natural timber and glossy engineered materials, are linked by clean uncomplicated lines creating a harmony that delivers an ethereal contemporary ambience.

Industrial chic workplace

Date :
Jun 2011
Location : 777 Hay Street Perth Western Australia
Project type :Corporate design fit out

Brief :
The project is to redesign the fit-out of a branch office for a leading architectural company. It is a planning work space for creative people who are team based and share ideas and projects across and within disciplines. A cross communication environment is required. The client is also moving to simplify processes; abandoning unnecessary processes or documentation and working towards an informal and flexible manner. This concept has to be taken and transformed into an office design.Concept :
The design strategy is based on the traditional Japanese philosophy that the ideal of beauty is attained through subtraction; the resulting emptiness creates harmony and leaves space for the imagination; the functional industrial-like aesthetics used embody this concept. Applying an industrial-like aesthetic in a sophisticated manner whilst giving the users comfort and creating a professional corporate image was challenging. The existing decorative moulding ceiling remains and provides a contrast to the plain contemporary elements.

Ne
w concept retail store

Date : Sep 2011
Location : 620 Beaufort Street Mount Lawley Western Australia
Project type : Retail space

Brief :
Set out new retail business and design retail store which unifies two opposite concepts – retail business and environmentally sustainable, leading to a new conceptual flagship store .

Business Proposal :
Combine design, production and retail in a single place for custom made knitwear made from Australian grown organic merino wool; designed by local designer and produced by local craftspeople. By using a whole garment knitting machine, knitwear can be made entirely in one piece on an individual basis at lower cost and with minimal yarn consumption.

Concept :
The aim is to change perceptions about conventional retail shops by creating a value that is truly unique. The ethos behind it, is Japanese “wabi-sabi” aesthetic which is made up of asymmetry, asperity (roughness or irregularity), simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty and intimacy.
